We installed a new fosse toutes eaux and an above ground filter bed at St Maixent l'Ecole last week. The site was alongside an old mill stream and the ground water level (nappe phreatique) was only about a metre down. The base of the fosse tank had to be about a metre below this to get the falls on the pipework and so we had a very difficult task to provide a level base, firm enough to support the tank, with about a metre of water over it.
There was only one access road to the site that did not have a 3.5t weight limit and so the heavy trucks carrying the materials had to negotiate a tortuous route through the countryside. I spent most of the time on the mobile phone telling the drivers how to find the site!
